The Idea Forge
Where raw ambition gets pressure-tested, sharpened, and forged into a plan you can build on.
Most ideas do not fail in the build. They fail because nobody stress-tested the thinking first. The Idea Forge puts your ambition under heat: we interrogate the assumptions, map the constraints that actually govern the decision, and test the concept against real users and real economics before a single line of production code exists. What you leave with is not a document. It is a defensible plan, a validated direction, and the evidence to commit with confidence.
Inside the phase
Five movements that take a raw idea and forge it into something solid enough to stand on.
Immersion
We embed with your team to learn the business, the customers, and the constraints that genuinely shape the decision — not the ones drawn on the org chart.
Interrogation
Every assumption gets named, written down, and challenged. We separate what you know from what you believe, because only one of those is safe to build on.
Exploration
Divergent thinking at speed. We generate a wide field of directions, deliberately including the uncomfortable ones, then judge them against evidence rather than seniority.
Pressure Test
The strongest concepts become prototypes, go in front of real users, and are measured on all three axes that matter: is it wanted, is it buildable, is it worth it.
The Blueprint
Convergence. One direction, fully argued: scope, sequence, architecture, cost envelope, and a clear-eyed account of the risks we intend to manage.
How long it runs
Typically four to eight weeks, depending on scope and how many stakeholders need to reach agreement.
What you
walk away with
Tangible outputs, owned by you, useful the moment the phase closes.
A validated product concept with the evidence behind it — a case, not an opinion
A prioritised roadmap, sequenced by impact and technical dependency
Technical architecture recommendation, with the rationale for every platform choice
A clickable prototype covering the critical user journeys
Effort, cost and timeline envelope robust enough to take to a board
A named risk register, with mitigations and owners against each entry
Start here if
If any of these sound familiar, this is the phase your project needs first.
You have a strong idea and no shared definition of what it actually is
Your stakeholders agree on the goal but not on the plan
Three vendors have quoted you three wildly different numbers
A previous build stalled and nobody can say precisely why
Frequently Asked Questions
Do we have to run the Idea Forge before the Reality Engine?
No. If you arrive with a validated plan, we are glad to go straight to build. But it is rare for the Idea Forge not to pay for itself — a fortnight spent removing the wrong feature costs far less than a quarter spent building it.
We already have specifications and designs. Is this still worth it?
Yes, and it runs faster. We shift from originating the concept to validating it: pressure-testing what exists, finding the gaps, and converting your material into a build-ready plan. You keep everything that survives scrutiny.
How much of our team's time does this take?
Less than you expect. We ask for a workshop cadence of roughly half a day per week from your core decision-makers, plus access to the people who know the domain. We do the heavy lifting between sessions.
What if you conclude we should not build it?
Then we will tell you plainly, and show our work. Killing the wrong project early is one of the most valuable outcomes this phase can produce, and we would rather lose a build than sell you one that should not exist.
